Sec Def in Khaki...Petreaus in "Digital"....Zhari Kandahar

The secretary of defense in khaki's, bomber jacket...with matching tent

4 stars on what is known as "digital" camouflage--a pattern that almost all soldiers universally hate because it isn't functional in Afghanistan--it's too green and two sharp, better for a urban warfare than deserts

mono braid....Kunduz

I would say braids are bigger in the north; though I wouldn't say why.

The most architecturally daring mosque in Afghanistan.

Nice Minarets.

Reverse Mohawks for 30 Afghanis.....Downtown Kabul

As a doctor I can't condone this. But as the long time writer of a fashion blog I fully endorse it.

Herat Dreaming....and Herat Reality

A dress in a women's wear shop in Herat. "Do they really wear this?" "Yes"

But on the street the next day, things looked a little bleaker.

Downtown Kabul Sinatra

The (striped) fedora as an accessory. Don't worry about it. Kabulis wear hats and scarves and other things you should really wearing, as accessories. Their so far ahead of you.

Zhari is so fucking Haute right now

You could attempt this. But you would not succeed.

Welcome to Afghan Sartorialist

This is a fashion blog. I think it may also end up an architecture blog. It is set in present time. Mostly, as the title suggests, in Afghanistan: fashion capital of central Asia and site of American's longest running war. There may be guest appearances by other nations, but probably not nations such as Milano or Savannah or the lower east and west sides of Manhattan.  At the outset it will be helpful to remember that this is a fashion/architecture blog in the sense that I will post pictures of people (or mannequins) wearing clothes, and other pictures of buildings without any people in them, or just small indistinct people if I need to show scale. Remember,  I, Doctor Eduardo Plarr, am not a designer or an architect. I am a doctor.  Here we have a mix and match ensemble in downtown Kabul, pairing nuevo/traditional bedazzled hat (a mainstay in Kandahar) with a white jacket (daring given the amount of fecal matter swirling through the streets at this time of year) and a scarf that matches nothing but is worn with a studied indifference.
